About
Above The Void is a Montreal AI cinema studio working across narrative film, music, and brand, and the maker of DreamReel, the production platform behind the work. The studio Most AI film work starts with a prompt and hopes a movie falls out. Above The Void starts where films have always started: a script, a structure, a reason for the cut. The tools are new. The problem is not. The studio is boutique by design and broad by practice. Founded by Luc Leclerc, a filmmaker and full-stack developer with 25 years in software, and operating out of Montreal under Solutions Aksiom Inc., it runs on a small senior team and scales through collaborators as a project demands. The range is real: original narrative work on one side, artist and label deliverables on the other, brand and agency work in between. On the music side, Above The Void has produced visual work for established acts including Dokken, Saxon, Queensryche, and Voivod, navigating the parts most AI shops never touch: label approvals, major-label AI content policy, rights clearance, artwork-trained models, delivery on a release calendar. Heritage acts have catalogs, legal departments, and fans who notice everything. That work does not survive on novelty. On the narrative side, William, or The Fragile Harmony of Latent Spaces was a Venice Biennale finalist with multiple additional festival selections. The Patient was selected at Burano AI Film Awards and AI Film Awards in Cannes. Our latest, By Means Unknown, is fifteen minutes on the Soviet absurdist Daniil Kharms, sourced from Russian originals translated fresh for the film. The house taste leans absurdist, surrealist, deadpan. The house capability does not. If a job calls for restraint, gloss, or somebody else's aesthetic executed cleanly, that is a service, not a compromise. DreamReel Everything runs through DreamReel, a multi-agent production platform built in-house across years of paid production rather than as a demo. DreamReel treats a film the way a film wants to be treated. Act, scene, beat, shot. Agents work down that hierarchy, so continuity is a property of the structure instead of something chased in post.
